About Us
Our Mission.
Desco Teatro is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional Latinx theater organization with the mission of promoting diverse Latin American experiences, cultures, and talents through artistic and educational programming with a focus on the intersection of Latinx, immigrant and LGBTQIA+ identities.
Our Pledge.
To offer an array of programs that are financially accessible for underserved and underprivileged Latinx communities.
Why decolonization?
Theater serves as a powerful platform for individuals of Latinx descent to reconnect with their cultural roots and heritage. Decolonization in the context of the arts allows us to reclaim the spotlight and assert our agency in narrating our own stories. This involves not only reframing and correcting narratives about ourselves but also addressing historical inaccuracies, challenging stereotypes, and celebrating our rich history and knowledge.

The process of decolonizing Latinx art has profound implications. It empowers people by providing them with a means to amplify their voices and perspectives. This empowerment isn't limited to a single group; it resonates across diverse communities, fostering a sense of unity, belonging, and pride.
Through productions that explore decolonization, we bring joy and healing to individuals and communities, serving as a source of inspiration, education, and cultural celebration. Ultimately, these productions contribute to a more inclusive, equitable, and empathetic society where diverse voices are valued and heard.
Our Team.
Our team is composed of experienced theater professionals and passionate individuals who share a commitment to promoting social justice and cultural diversity through the arts.
We believe that theater has the power to transform individuals and communities by creating a space for dialogue, reflection, and empathy.
